Trinity College Multi Purpose Facility and Link Building

Awards

2017 Australian Institute of Building Western Australia – Commercial Construction $5million to $25million

The newly constructed Multi-Purpose facility forms part of an extensive master plan to upgrade the existing facilities at Trinity College in East Perth. The Facility was constructed in an active school environment without any disruption to the day to day operation.

The new facility consists of two areas namely a Gymnasium and a Link Building spanning over three levels. There is an undercroft car park and stores on the ground floor; state of the art  Multipurpose sports hall consisting of two full size basketball courts, a kitchenette, classrooms and stores on level 1. There are further classrooms on level 2.

Access to the building consists of various precast and insitu staircases as well as an access controlled lift.

The building is situated in close proximity of the Swan River resulting in various technical difficulties surrounding the construction of the facility. Extensive dewatering was required during the ground works. The structure is supported off a vast number of precast piles to ensure that the building remains intact on the ever sinking surrounding grounds. Due to regular flooding and the high water table, extensive waterproofing and the provision of a permitter flood barrier wall also formed part of the structure.

The structure consisted of numerous polished precast columns and walls, suspended concrete slabs and a structural steel roof structure. The façade of the building include Alpolic Cladding, face brick walls and full height glazing.
