Project Hamlet, Site 21

Canon Foods project was a design and construct build which consisted of the extension of the existing facility whilst operational, also included the construction of a new building which linked to the existing facility.

The extension of the existing facility was a challenge, as it was kept fully operational, thus requiring the construction of a high care area whilst extending all existing services. A new ammonia plantroom was constructed to accommodate the upgrade in the refrigeration space, with all services extended around the new extension whilst operational.

The extension consisted of tilt panels, structural steel, concrete slabs to numerous falls for high care and PIR insulated panels for internal walls and ceilings. Additional amenities were built to accommodate the extension of the facility.

A link walkway was constructed between the extension and the new building. The new building was a large warehouse which included various refrigerated spaces inclusive of a large freezer, chilled storage and refrigerated specialist zone for their processing equipment. A refrigerated loading dock zone was constructed to receive goods and an ambient storage zone with extensive racking for dry goods.

Large self-supporting tilt panel walls were erected on the one side due to proximity of the existing building and fire requirements. An extensive hardstand and car parking area was constructed to accommodate the additional number of employees.
