Kings Park Refurbishment of Existing Office Building & External Additions
Awards
2013 Australian Institute of Building Western Australia Professional Excellence in Building Award – Commercial Construction $1million to $10million
The project consisted of the refurbishment of an existing three storey office block into art gallery floor space with the third and ground level also comprising of toilets and kitchens. A glass atrium lobby was also constructed which connected the building with the building next door to form an extravagant entry statement to the new gallery space.
The roof of the third level was also raised by 1500mm to increase the ceiling height. The mechanical system created many challenges due to working with existing structure and space restrictions and formed an integral part to the project, as temperatures in the space are critical due to being a gallery. A high level of finishes completed the boardroom, lobby and toilets to create a luxurious experience whilst using the common space outside the galleries.
With the project being situated on Kings Park road access, programming and sequence of works were vital to the success and timely completion of the project.
